Why is a heatwave a problem?

The main risks posed by a heatwave are:

•             not drinking enough water (dehydration)

•             overheating, which can make symptoms worse for people who already have problems with their heart or breathing,

•             heat exhaustion and heatstroke

There is lots of advice on how to reduce the risk for yourself or somebody you know can be obtained from NHS 111 Online for advice at

https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/healthy-body/heatwave-how-to-cope-in-hot-weather/

We know that heat adversely affects people and anticipate an increase in anxiety and reactive behaviours as a result. Please avoid activities that increase the risk of dehydration, monitor people’s fluid intake and watch for signs of dehydration such as confusion.

Stay safe and enjoy the sunshine.
